Fish are aquatic vertebrate animals with gills, fins and usually scales on their bodies. They are found abundantly in both freshwater and marine environments: species can be found from mountain springs (brook trout, gudgeon trout) to the deepest oceans (grandgousier, ogrefish). However, their distribution is very uneven: 50% of fish are thought to live in 17% of the ocean surface1 (which is often also the most overexploited).
